Montessori Classroom

Type of School

We are a Montessori magnet school which is part of the Hartford Public School system. Montessori is “Education-for-Life”, promoting life-long learning! Montessori education has long been recognized around the world as a premier program committed to social reform and sustainability of the environment. The Montessori Method is taught in 22,000 schools and 125 countries.

Program Start Up

In 2009 our Montessori program started with two Primary classrooms housed in Moylan School.  Our program was established as a Hartford Magnet School on July 1, 2013.  The program grew to include Lower and Upper Elementary classrooms.  Montessori Magnet's Primary classrooms were located at Moylan School and Lower and Upper Elementary classrooms were located at McDonough Middle School. For the 2018-2019 school year, all Primary, Lower and Upper Elementary students were joined together under one roof in the Batchelder building at 757 New Britain Avenue.

Montessori Magnet seeks "recognition" through AMI/USA, an acknowledgment of the highest quality program implementation at both primary and elementary levels, AMI/USA recognition confirms that we function under the guidelines and standards of the Association Montessori Internationale (Amsterdam).
